St. Lucia 2012 – Dec 8

Welcome to the 35th Celebration of the St. Lucia Tradition in Dalesburg!

Please join us on Saturday, December 8 at 3:00 p.m. at Dalesburg Lutheran Church.

This year’s celebration will feature a Lucia Court of five girls.  One girl will be crowned Lucia for the evening.  There will be a program with a Scandinavian theme and a buffet of Scandinavian food.  A freewill collection will go to area food pantries.  The celebration remembers the generosity and commitment of St. Lucia to those in need and to her faith.

For information, call 605-253-2575.

Dalesburg Heritage

Dalesburg is the name of a farming community in central Clay Count, South Dakota, United States of America.  The name Dalesburg (in Swedish: Dalsborg) is from Dalarna – the name of the province from where many of the first homesteaders came in central Sweden.

Today the residents of the Dalesburg Community are served by the Vermillion, Beresford, Centerville, and Burbank Post Offices.  The community is located between Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Sioux City, Iowa.

Svardsjo Parish Church

Dalesburg Lutheran Church and Svardsjo Parish Church, Dalarna Province, Sweden

In 1993, a sister congregation relationship was created between Dalesburg Lutheran and the State Church Congregation in Svardsjo Parish, Dalarna Province, Sweden. Many of the first Swedes to come to Dalesburg, came from Svardsjo, beginning in the later 1860’s. The relationship fosters an opportunity to learn about contemporary congregational life in both congregations through exchanges of materials and visits, and offers an opportunity for family history research for individuals on both sides of the Atlantic who have ancestry from Svardsjo
